Swallow All Your Tears My Love, Put On Your New Face

The rain here in the Kansas City are has been relentless (relentless). I shouldn't complain too much, as many of you know a town in Kansas was completely obliterated by a tornado this weekend.

In any case, the rain locally has been crazy. Our basement has had its fair share of puddles (but I know others who have had it worse) and the ground is soggy. So soggy that when I step off the concrete my shoes smoosh into the ground and I lose my balance.

The rain let up today, just long enough for me dash outside. The garden is a complete mess, and there's tons of work to do. But it's been brought to my attention that my ho needs her crack, so here you go...

miniature iris
ornamental grass
peonies
elephant ears
aliums
volunteer daisy

Well...it's a veritable paradise there. I guess that's what happens when you get all that wet stuff! Just don't loose your balance and hurt your foot again...that would be sad!

The only advantage of not having a basement is that I don't have to deal with all the water. We did come downstairs yesterday morning, however, to a kitchen floor covered with worms. That was exciting. Especially for a 3 year old boy.

And you've gotta love a volunteer! I have a volunteer columbine this year. Where the heck did that come from? Now if I could just get my neighbor's poppys to volunteer in my garden. I may have to go dig some up under cover of darkness. Mwhahahahahaha!

And they say the Pacific Northwest is wet. I hate to tell you, but it is dry and blue and warm and gorgeous here.

But don't worry, just a few days ago it was blowing wind and rain and hail and everything was drenched.

Also: we will probably get three weeks of uninterrupted rain at the end of May into June right when your weather turns permanently perfect for the summer.

I had a quick consult of my map when I heard the tornado news to check it wasn't too close to you. Those poor folks.

And your peonies are almost out - very exciting.

All of the flowers are just beautiful.

I hope you get nice sun-shiny weather soon.

It's pretty bad north of us, around Parkville. Our yard is a swamp, but I'm happy to be far from the river and (so far) not too close to the twisters.

I was worried about you in Kansas. So glad to know you are safe.
Love the turtle. We saved a frog last year and he's still with us.

Those peonies are just about to burst! They are my favorite. My peonies are close enough to my sewing room that I end up with ants in here this time of year...

Be careful in the mud. My aunt just broke her foot like you did. Ugh.

(Saw the Psychedelic Furs several times YEARS ago...I think we have the same taste in music!) Enjoy your flowers, mine look great too, but I fall down with the watering and care in the summer, so, too bad, they shrivel up and die!
