Time is a River Rolling into Nowhere

I think I may have broken my children.

They are constantly whining, we're tired, may we please go inside and watch cartoons now? and all this outside time is getting to be too much. Wah, wah, wah, we are playing out side too much, wah, wah, wah. Woe is me, woe is me, fresh air and sunshine, wah, wah, wah.

This weekend we've spent lots of time outside. Which is actually unusual for us, considering our horrible allergies (and trust me, I'm paying for it right now with arm wrapped protectively around a box of puffs plus, with a gargantuan pile of snotty tissues in front of me; ahem). But this weekend I decided to throw caution to the wind.

Caution. To. The. Wind.

Walks around the block! Pulling weeds! Playing with sidewalk chalk on the driveway! Pulling weeds! A trip to Lawrence for me! Pulling weeds! Lots and lots of weeds! Eight bags of weeds! Walks to Griffin's future school! And did I mention pulling weeds?!

Of course this has caused a flurry of other problems (not just my new found obsession with boxes of tissues), as my legs have now also decided that seriously I need to lay the fuck off the weeding.

The muscles are all we hurt and stop this and why the fuck are you using us now?! and we want to sit on the couch. Wah, wah, wah, my muscles don't like being used, wah, wah, wah. Boofuckinghoo.

And right now? Right now Darwin and Griffin are looking out the window begging the clouds for rain.

So I've seen this meme around, stuff about Real Moms. No one tagged me, of course, but that's not going to stop me from participating.

Well, real moms don't mind when little boys pick flowers for them out of the garden.

Even when they are stolen from the school down the street.

Ahem.

Now I will know why that picture has a bunch of hits. ;)

I know that gardening muscle ache. I have a right arm muscle ache from carrying Eliot a little more than usual. And flipping my veil around, but that's another story.

It's great getting the kids outside again (even if they whine about it). I've been running mine ragged.

i'm sure you haven't broken them - i think a lot of kids have a hard time adjusting to the seasons changing. mine want to be outside ALL the time lately - and today it's supposed to storm and ... SNOW!

ugh.

Hee Hhe, the only thing better than a flower picked out of a garden, is a flower picked out of someone else's garden!

Oh No! I hope your allergies calm down soon. Can you wear a surgical mask outside? (and people think I'm crazy)

I let Lucas pick flowers too. :)

You so funny

Yes, I love Puffs Plus, if that is the one with the lotion in it. I go through so much of it this time of year.

Have you ever used Preen weed-preventer on your gardens? I loooove that stuff. It is biodegradable, and it totally cuts down on the weeds. Of course, we forgot to put it on early enough this year, so we already have some dandelions in the beds. But the rest of the season shouldn't be so bad. Of course, it's no good if you plant seeds (I don't).

Oh, I know how you feel about the muscles!! Mine are still complaining from all the raking I did a few weeks back (and I know they were a part of the scheme to get me sick the next week so that all I could do was sit and rest...well...there's more raking to do, so SHUT IT!) ahem.

The kids are lucky you do not make them go outside alone (I had a friend that used to lock her kids outside for a bit of peace and quiet...desparate moms)

The flowers are lovely...and damn. I did not know Choxie had wheat in it...why? why? why?

The pilfered flowers are lovely...

And D&G sound so Victorian in their litanies of woe: "The spores! Horrors, the spores.... Fresh air is bad for you!"

Great post. Made me chuckle with all the wah, wah, wahing...

oh, my kids only like to be outside in springy/autumny weather. in the summer, it's too hot and humid and too many mosquitoes. (i really don't blame them.) this time of year, i can't get them inside for dinner.

and, you're getting old. that's what happens when you get old. your body aches more.

of course i am saying that because i am MUCH older than you...

Your kids are lucky. They just don't know it. When it's cold and they can't go outside, maybe they'll look back fondly on their outside days. :o)

My poor kids. They really WANT to go outside. Not just the back yard. They want to go to the park, but Mommy can't because Mommy has allergies. One good side effect of the allergies is that I shower all the time to wash all the pollen off of me. I am cleaner than I ever have been. Last week there was one 24-hour period when I took 3 showers. Too clean...

Allergies suck.

My kid never wants to go outside anymore either.

He told me he doesn't need exercise because he has enough muscles already.

Well - aren't you so stylish with your daffodils - they look great and it is so lovely when the boys bring flowers in - so what if they are 'stolen'!

My kids pretty much live outside if I let them. Or if I lock the door... I open the window so I can see them, until of course the boy runs stark naked to front of the house to pee. Its good to be three.

LOVE the floating daffodils--what a cute way to display them!
