First I'm Gonna Make it, Then I'm Gonna Break it 'Till it Falls Apart

We didn't accomplish as much this weekend as we had hoped, but we did get a lot done.

We went to both farmers markets, Aaron finally dismantled the last of the greenhouse (now we can take all the aluminum to the recycling center), and I got some sewing time...

I've been wanting to make myself a satchel for quite a while. And I'm completely convinced that had I had a satchel last summer, I wouldn't have had the stupid fucking foot experience.

So this weekend I made myself a satchel. The body and (extra super-duper long over-my-shoulder) handle are linen, with cotton accent.

The inside is lined with a 30's print (big surprise, I'm sure) and pockets (for my wallet and cell phones) matching the outside accent. The linen is lined with some interfacing to give it a little more substance, but keeping the softness and floppability. The bottom has a removable fabric-covered cardboard piece to keep the shape.

I wanted something I could easily throw over my shoulder, so I have both hands free at all times. It's big enough to stow a couple of diapers and wipes as well as two sippy cups and a bottle water.

Because, you know, I have to have my priorities straight.

So, that's what I did this weekend: spent an ass-load of time making myself something for once.

(And this project brought a long a huge discussion of making stuff and selling it and telling Aaron about etsy and hyperventilating into paper bags because who the fuck would buy something I made?!)

What a great bag...I toy with etsy too, why are we holding ourselves back when we ROCK? Ahhhh...fear that raises it's ugly head...grrrr

Really a cute bag. And handy. And the etsy thing is interesting. I'm always wondering about collecting taxes and reporting income. (Yeah, supposing there is income!)

I love your bag. I think there's enough room to hold a beer bottle too! And etsy, go for it. There's nothing to lose and you make great things!

I love your bag! Really. It will be great this summer when you go to the park and there is nature below your feet. Two hands free to catch/break your fall. Two hands free to hold onto your boys.

Your satchel is gorgeous.

And the etsy thing? You'll never know if you don't give it a whirl. And 'I wonder if..' is an agonizing question.

LOVE it. It's perfect and just my style... hmmmm, if only there was a place I could buy a similar one for myself...

I would buy a Capello bag. Can't help but wonder how many hours it would take to make a bag, compared to how much profit you would make. Probably more profit in selling tuperware or avon? Have you ever heard of Vera Bradly. They are big in Indiana. Quilted bags for tons of money. I guess the is a possibility.

Totally worried about you after hearing on the news about a mall shooting in your neck of the woods. Thought about how you were spending the whole weekend out and about. Glad you are ok. Not great at Geography perhaps the shooting was not near you? Love the bag!

I love the bag! That drop fabric has been one of my recent favs.

The worst that can happen if an etsy shop doesn't work out is that you get to declare lots of fun fabric as "losses" on your taxes. :)

Pretty bag! I have that drop fabric on my want list. It's been there forever. Sigh. They don't carry it at thrift stores. ha! You did a great job and go for Etsy baby! Why the heck not?

The bag looks great and I think you should do an Etsy shop because I have seen a lot of wonderful projects you've made that looked professional, such as the pin cushions that you sent out to a bunch of people many months ago. Dude, I can't tell you how much I wanted one of those!

I would! Your bag is awesome...and good for you for taking time to make something for yourself. I think we all need to do that more often!

what a CUTE bag!!! I would buy one. So there.

I'd buy a bag from you too. Though you might end up spending a lot of time sewing if you set up an etsy store. That could be good or bad. But I'm sure you'd have buyers!

Go you! Your satchel looks awesome!!

Speaking from experince sewing stuff unless your SUPER fast is not all that profitable. I'm convinced that the ones who do are just doing it because they like to sew, period. I may be full of shit though because I'm sorta a "fake" sewer anyway. Long story short I'm moving into selling my paintings instead. I do really like your bag though....very cool.

Lovely bag!

And the etsy thing... Well I actually just jumped in and opened an etsy shop, and it does feel like a big deal. There really isn't anything to lose though, so I say go for it!
