She Doesn't Like to Choose

CBS is really kissing my ass, trying to make up for canceling The Class in May.

(Which? Fuck you CBS. I love that show. Richie and I were gonna run away together and make smart babies who didn't have any food allergies.)

A couple of weeks ago they premiered The Big Bang Theory.

So basically they traded my one nerd for four. ::drool::

The best part of the show, perhaps, is of all our friends it reminds us of.

I love the nerdiness. It makes me drool.

But what surprises me about the show is how the nerdy boys do not make Penny feel like she's an outcast. Because anyone within the nerdy clique, okay -- on the fringes of the nerdy clique -- know that nerds are just as bad at shunning non-nerds and non-nerds are at shunning nerds.

I know this first hand.

Quite a few years ago (when I was still at KU -- pre-marriage, pre-children; hell, pre-engaged) Aaron and I went to Boston for spring break to go check out MIT.

(Yes, DUH, my husband is a nerd. We were discussing him going to MIT to get his Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence -- he was accepted and everything.)

A friend of Aaron's came up from New York and arranged a big meet and greet at a bar in Boston. It was me and about 15 nerderific men. It ROCKED.

They talked String Theory. They talked Y2K. They talked electronics, gaming and gizmos. It was like I had died and gone to Nerd Heaven.

After a (long) while, one of them asked what I did. I replied, "Oh, I'm a student at the University of Kansas."

"What's your major?"

"Advertising."

"Huh?"

"Advertising. Through the Journalism school."

"Really? I didn't know people went to college to do that."

And then I had to give them a lecture about how advertising works. They had no concept. Then their eyes glazed over with boredom.

Do you know what that feels like? The ability to bore a nerd?

IT'S THE BESTEST DAMN FEELING IN THE UNIVERSE.

All 26 of them.

Hee Hee Hee!

I, too, am a Geekofile!

I get the same reaction every time my Graphic Designer self tries to tell my Excel-Guru-Finance-Director hubby about my day.

Same thing happens in reverse. When he starts talking balance sheets and General Ledger... you can actually hear the *clang* as my brain shuts down.

Nerds are HOT!

I'm not THAT nerdy but I could be considered a techno geek, okay on the fringes of...I'm 34 and still play video games...I love me some video games, best played with children so you can kick their @$$. But more often than not they are better than me....I'm good with electronics...does that count as being just a wee bit nerdy?

I was an advertising major too. And a nerd at the same time. Go figure.

My guy is a nerd too, I won't say geek because apparently a geek is a performer that swallows various live creatures(frogs and bugs etc). People have refused to play trivial pursuit with him. I LOVE listening to conversations between him and a couple of our SUPER nerdy friends .

Hey, do you watch Beauty and the Geek?

LOL - I confess to liking the bang theory show, and to thinking that he is HOT. LOL. I was LMAO last week because I could totally relate to them playing that stupid game. DH and I used to play and I cheated and went into GOD mode and kept killing him and stealing his stuff nad he got soooooooooooooo pissed at me. LOL. I know YOU can appreciate that.

And playing Jenga because the internet was out for 30 mins. LMAO. I can so relate.

Yep. Yep Yep Yep. Majored in Advertising myself. Husband buries himself in dismantled computers (dismantled everything - why cant we leave anything the way it came?) and has the sexiest passion for every geeky thing.

I will tell you that watching him sit down and read, cover to cover, computer manuals for PHP and Movable Type is fairly fricken hot.

Go nerds.

My comment has nothing to do with your post. Just wanted to say that I've read your whole blog over the last couple of days, and I've enjoyed it. (Have to be honest.... I'm divorced with 4 boys.... left my ex when my oldest was 5 and my youngest was 11 months.... SO glad all of us can eat anything we want. I've learned more about food allergies in the last two days than I have my whole life. Raising 4 boys on my own is NOTHING compared to all that allergy shit!)

Also.... thanks so much for posting about your site counter. I'm a bit of a techophobe... slowly learning more... and I could never manage to add one before. The site you used was so easy. I just love you. When I managed to add it I felt like a genius.

I'm curious about the Anonymous poster... who IS she?
