First things first... I made the madeleines. Mmmm.... gluten-free coconut madeleines.
And no situation is more appropriate for madeleines than a Batman birthday party. Right? Right.
I think I may be officially on my way to conquering this whole gluten-free baking business. Ha! Nanny-nanny-boo-boo! Nanny-nanny-boo-boo!
Yesterday I got to go out to Lawrence all by myself. Oh yeah, you heard right: All. By. My. Self.
I got to drive in the car for 45 minutes without any crying or talking. I got to listen to music and sing along without anyone telling me that my voice is awful. I got to stroll up and down the street window shopping without anyone complaining about wanting to be carried.
It. Was. Glorious.
You want to know what else is glorious?
My fabric purchases.
(And Amy? Remember when I questioned you on your post about Sarah's? I'm eating crow now. Mmmm, crow. Yummy-yummy crow.)
Fabric to make traveling bags for me and the kids. We are leaving for Michigan on Saturday to visit Aaron's family.
(Stop laughing.)
1930s reproductions.
And some stuff purchased at the antique mall. The strawberry fabric is old curtains and the other is a huge table cloth.
No, I don't know what I'm going to do with them. Does everything in life need a plan?
Geesh.

It's excellent that you got out for the day and your fabric has me drooling!!
OH wow! Sounds like an awesome day! And I love the stuff you got. So cool. And you're gonna make 3 bags this week? eeek.
Coconut-yum! Did you save me one? 8-)
I am so jealous of your time off - but you really deserve it after the last few weeks. Madeleines look yummy and the fabric is all great - have a good stay at the in-laws (heehee) - I' off to stay with mine at the end of August!?!
Your day sounds fabulous - I'm so jealous. You made some great purchases, I can't wait to see what you make. I especially love that tablecloth.
yay for kid free time! Your fabric is lovely. I always buy fabric without having a purpose and then I'm too afraid to use it because it's my pretty fabric.
I feel you on the inlaws thing. I had a nightmare about mine last night! They always end up driving me nuts.
I'm glad your recipe worked out well!
If the in-laws get you down, just gaze at the bag fabrics and think zen thoughts. Shopping alone .... shopping alone....
I do hope you enjoy your vacation. Perhaps with all the extra adults you will get oodles of opportunities to spend some one on one time with Aaron. Probably not, they all want to spend time with him too? The cookies look great. The fabric is wonderful. So glad you got a chance to get out on your own. Funny how the little things in life become so beautiful when you are a mom.
Very yummy looking cookies - Batman has a delicate side, I think - so very appropriate.
I'm glad you had fun at Sarah's. I've never had a bad time there, that's for sure. The fabrics you got are fantabulous. I'm definitely going there next week. Definitely. No plan is ever required for fabric purchases here -- but I won't say that hasn't gotten me in to trouble....
And your entry issue? Um, no wise advice here. I have all my own problems that sit and sit and sit...
Man, I've just been diagnosed with coeliac's disease and am desperate for some good recipes for bread and cookies. Where have you found them?
its those little 45 minutes alone here and there that we live for.... and then to get to go to Lawrence ... thats the icing on the cake.
Yipeeeeeee !!!
Laura the fabrics are wonderful. And I know what you are talking about time alone - I always enjoy when i can go to the toilet on my own!!!
Oh, my God! I was in Sarah's yesterday feeling up all the goods. I was on a tight schedule, though, so no purchases were made, but much drool was spilt. (Did you notice any fabric that was a bit soggy? Sorry about that.) Yea for a day out! I realized last night that my children will be in school and I will be off work next Monday (computer server update) so I will have the whole DAY TO MYSELF! Yahoo! I was jumping up and down doing the happy dance in my kitchen!
Anyway, I'm loving your blog and I echo your many sentiments about life in the midwest. Rain, already, dammit!
Cheers!
Laeroport
nice fabric.
what are "traveling bags"? do i need to make some?!?
ahhhh - it's the little things. I love when I have no kids in the car and can listen to music that does not involve the words "chickens", "moo" or "wags the dog". LOL.
isn't "Me Time" the best? you deserve it......... and i love that fabric with the strawberries. it's retro cool.
the buscuits look yum and yes, that time alone is ESSENTIAL!!!
Wow, what a score!! Lovely fabrics, I'm sure you're going to make something beautiful with them :))
Oooooo - your bags are going to look so nice. I think I made the boys 3 swimming bags in one evening - no liners - just drawstrings. It took a lot longer than I expected, but I felt great afterward. It IS doable.
Please eat a madeleine for me. They look yummy.
Coconut and madeleine in one?! Oh yum!t
What a great fabric haul. Especially love the strawberries!
