You May Be Right, I May Be Crazy; But it Just May Be a Lunatic You're Looking For

I am so very happy that last week is over. Aaron took the boys to the doctor Friday afternoon (while I took a nap to try to get over the miserable head cold) and found out Darwin has ringworms. Nice. Then, my dad called Friday evening to tell me of his medical test results, and supposedly he's suffered "two minor strokes in the past week" and has an enlarged heart. Nice. Then, while sifting through Griffin's backpack Saturday, I found a notice that he's been exposed to pinworms, which unlike ringworms are ACTUALLY WORMS (if you are squeamish, do not click on the video at the bottom of the pinworm link). Nice. And I spent the entire day Saturday moaning about wanting to shove an ice pick into my sinuses into to help the draining. Nice.

Like I said... I am so very happy that last week is over.

Yesterday was much better, as I finally got my mojo back. My cooking mojo, my list making mojo and my breathing mojo (yes, there is such a thing).

Yesterday I actually cooked an inspired dinner and made some gluten-free vanilla-lemon cupcakes with dark chocolate buttercream with Griffin (blogger wouldn't let my post a photo).

This morning the boys and I went to my alternative doctor to discuss Darwin's allergies. I love my doctor. He's brutally honest and awesome. He didn't know the name of the clinics, but he did know the names of the doctors and the type of medicine they practice. So I'll be spending the afternoon googling all this information to try to find the special clinics in Dallas and Chicago to try to take the baby to (he thinks Darwin's missing something in his body or has a genetic defect to have this many allergies).

Okay, I need to go start dinner now (yes, start dinner at two in the afternoon... red beans and rice... yum) and get to googling.

Glad you're feeling better! Sorry to hear about the worm afflictions. The joys of children and the environments in which they live - Petrie Dishes!!

Good luck with your Googling, and I'm glad you're feeling better. I hope that someday soon we can have an actual playdate. The cupcakes look fantastic!

mine had pinworms earlier this year. freaked me right out. my dh had to deal with actual worms because I'm a wimpy little freak. ugh.

BUT

one big pill from ye old ped and they were gone. of course, that pill was probably full of gluten...

stupid gluten.

man I would give a lot for one of those cupcakes. they look deliciousx10

Glad to hear the mojo's back - and man, oh, man those cupcakes look dreamy!

Been there, done that with ringworm. Vaguely remember either my sister or I being exposed to pinworms as tots and having to take the big pill - so it happens to the best of us!

Happy sleuthing as you track down the info for YoungDarwin!

Good luck googling. The cupcakes look devine. Glad you got your mojo back. One of the alternative things I am looking into how the body reacts to different foods. Dr. Weil has a lot of information about using foods to feel better. Like anti-inflamatory foods etc. Since we have so many bad reactions to foods I thought it was nice to try and find ways to use foods for good.

You gotta get the neti pot! They also make them for children, but I haven't had my son try it yet.
I'm sorry you've had so many things flying your way. If it makes you feel better, I had pinworms as a child and I'm just fine now. :)

Oh geez! That IS a crappy week. Let me know if you end up heading to Chicagoland. Im only 20 minutes away. And we tried the banana bread finally!!! And let me tell you it is great...the closest thing to the real deal we've found. It was so great having something that all 4 boys (dh included in that group) could enjoy together. Many, many thanks.

MMMMMM - I love love love love red beans and rice. MMMMMM. if I were closer I'd be inviting myself over. LOL.

Also - there is a woman here who is a genius with herbs. You MUST get Kid Viral for the kids and infection fighter for you. AMAZING stuff. It kicked the colds butts in our house in 2 days! And the baby wound up barely getting the sniffles. Expensive, but cheaper than the doctor. http://angelsherbs.com/

I had no idea about these pinworm things! Ick. It sounds like they are so common, I'll probably have to deal with them at some point. Not looking forward to that!

Glad you have the breathing mojo back. That's always helpful for the living.

Whew, glad to hear that you're having a better week.

Okay, Lily has been complaining about her butt itching, now I'm scared to think what it might be. Worms freak me out! EEEKKK!!

The only problem we have found with honest alternative doctors is that they tell you what is really going on in your body. I went to a hematologist to see why I was anemic. He couldn't even figure out that I had celiacs disease (gluten allergy). Yet when I went to my alternative doctor it was one of the first things she checked when she realized my body wouldn't take in any iron. I hope hope the specialist will be able to help you. I thought about you guys a lot this weekend as we were traveling. We couldn't wait to get home to real food.

When is rains it pours, right? Hopefully, everything will even out soon. Good luck with the clinics, I hope they are able to help Darwin or at least answer some very serious questions.
