Winter Solstice just threw up all over my living room.
And didn't clean up her own mess.
So! We have a tree! Whee! And today, I PUT UP LIGHTS FOR WOE, I AM AWESOME.
Sorry. I'm an only child. I need applause for every little accomplishment I make.
So my dad is having his big-ass surgery Friday. I am doing my best to act Normal and Keep My Shit Together but I keep making inappropriate jokes about him dying TO MENTALLY PREPARE MYSELF. Not that I want him to kick it, and damn that would suck donkey balls if that happened, but if I can't make a joke about something and laugh at it then I don't cope at all and hey, AT LEAST I'M COPING A LITTLE WITH THE REALLY BAD JOKES.
And yes, that's exactly why I haven't started my December Daily album. If my dad kicks it, there's no way I'm going to want to be all HOLIDAY CHEER in a scrapbook right now.

hey, let me know if you need anything. I will be home hopefully wednesday night. so if you need anything (sorry no alcohol not old enough)
oh and this is Sarah your cousin :)
I'm around this week too... and I'm old enough to buy the liquor. ;)
Really, just let me know if you need anything.
I would have to ship the liquor, but I am of course willing to help out in any way. You have my number.
Yeah, I'm way too far away to be of much help, liquor or otherwise. But I send moral support.
keeping your dad and the family in my prayers hon'!
all of my good thoughts and hopes are coming the way of you and your family!
We've never met, and I have no idea what I could do to help... but I do love to read your blog. I am sending you all sorts of positive healing thoughts... and praying for you, your dad, your family and for the surgeons.
Your Dad will be fine. I predict he will be giving you shit by Sunday morning. Let me know if I can do anything for you long-distance. Hugs and positive thoughts to all of you.
My fingers are crossed that it all goes really well for him.
I think levity makes the medicine go down. At Philip's mom's memorial dinner I was making jokes about how to dispose of bodies and got his whole family laughing really hard which temporarily relieved the dreadful sorrow that everyone was feeling. Some people might think joking about serious things is disrespectful but not me.
We got our tree up too!
I'm available too if you need anything. Hang in there and keep me posted on how things are going. It will help distract me from my husband going to holiday parties in DC without me...
Well...I think that you're allowed to miss the holiday festiveness of the crazy Lego advent due to the circumstances. Getting the tree up and cleaning up the mess that comes along with that is enough...
I hope your dad pulls through with flying colors and heals very fast.
There's no way to prepare, its just far too awful. But laugh while you can life gives you enough times when laughing feels impossible. Hoping all is well for you and your family for many many days to come.
I totally understand about making jokes. It helps deal with the whole thing.
I am a big laugher at very inaproprate moments... My Gramma dying. A big haha. Hubby passing a kidney stone. OMG can't stop laughing. I have no control over it and it pisses people off.
Wishing your Dad the best. :)
