Kick 'Em Right in the Face

I keep waiting to sigh a big breathe of relief, but it's just not coming.

My dad's doing okay, he's still in the hospital. Supposedly he's being released today and will have his surgery in two weeks or so.

He has 100% blockage in one of his arteries. Holy fuck. And they are just leaving it there for weeks. Double holy fuck.

Apparently when you have a heart attack, it takes seven to ten days for all the damage to occur, then it takes about another 15 days for the heart to have repaired all it can. The doctors have discovered it's better to wait for this process to complete itself before going in and having the quadruple-bypass surgery. Which totally makes sense scientifically.

Emotionally, though, I want to go around and pop doctors on the head and yell FIX MY FUCKING DAD ALREADY, JESUS CHRIST.

Good gravy...I didn't know any of that about heart attacks. That's nuts that they wait, but I can kind of see why...I hope the time goes by fast and that nothing else happens until they can get in there and fix him all up!

I would be falling down with the stress of it. I hate waiting being an impatient person, especially when it concerns my loved ones.

I didn't realize he'd already had a heart attack. It does suck that you all have to wait, but if the surgery will be more successful this way, I suppose that's best. Hope the next two weeks go by fast.

I will say a prayer for your father!

I went through this with my dad several years ago - he went in for an exploritory preliminary angioplasty and the next thing we knew they wheeled him in to surgery for a quintuple bypass. Evidently he had previously suffered a heart attack and not known it. 6 years later, he's doing great.

Ay, that's a tough two-week wait. I hope he takes it easy!

Wow - interesting about the waiting, and frustrating I'm sure. But great that they are doing what's known to be best. Heart surgery has changed so much - my dad had mitral valve repair done about 15 years ago and back then it was much more invasive with a longer recovery than it would be today. I remember waiting nervously through surgery and seeing him just after in ICU (startling, be prepared for your dad to look unlike himself b/c of all the meds and fluids) He's been fit as a fiddle for years since - surgeons (and the human heart) are amazing. I'll keep praying for your dad!!!!

My heart goes out to you. My father-in-law had the same issues a few years ago. In fact he underwent double bypass surgery on Chirstmas Eve that year... My thoughts are with you and your fmaily

I swear one of the worst things about having a loved one in the hospital is all the waiting. I will keep your daddy-o in my thoughts and prayers.

*hugs*

I'm sorry. I can't imagine how stressed you are. I hope you'll take extra care of yourself during this time.

When my mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer, they waited a month to do her surgery, so I understand your frustration. If I could've done the surgery myself, right away, I would've!!

She is in full remission now--for five years.

Best wishes to your dad.

I will be thinking of you and your family. It is hard to be calm when all you want to do is make it better, but this is the best way. Hang in there!
