Ideals You Used to Play With

My children played with a slug for over an hour today.

Dude. A slug.

Of course, they were suppose to be picking up leaves (hello, new flat of flowers planted!) but they kept insisting, "No, mommy! We're having fun playing with the slug!"

Alrighty, then.

And since you all seem to know everything about everything...

What kind of tree is this? Normally, the flowers are more white and full. Any ideas?

Eeewwwwww!!! Did you teach them how fun slugs and salt can be?
Cale once played with a roly poly bug after I bugged him for about 30 minutes. I was so proud. He's more afraid of bugs than I am!!
Arbor day foundation has a tree identifier.

William wanted to bring a slug in yesterday. I told him that yes, it was cute, but it needed to live outside. I prefer insects personally.

Once you've seen Flushed Away, you'll realize how adorable slugs can be.

My son used to play with snails. With bare hands. Do you know how hard it is to get mushed up snail snot off of hands (and at times feet)? Not easy. Which, let me tell you, is why I have NO desire what.so.ever. to try escargot.

My son chose a slug as a pet last weekend, and then proceeded to talk to it for hours in a lecturing, hectoring kind of mommy voice which had me re-evaluating the way we communicate... Of course the minute he turned his back the poor slug saw its chance and crawled right up the walls of its prison and (I was going to say ran away, but that's not appropriate).
Kristi, I had forgotten about the Flushed Away slugs, they are hilarious! And their song has my kids in hysterics every time (he said potty! he said potty!).

If you can get past the slime slugs are really fascinating, I think. We play with them, roly polies, ladybugs, Daddy Long Legs and lightening bugs and worms on a fairly regular basis. SG is also a master at digging grubs out of the flower beds. It's fun! Then again, JP will probably be getting a Ball Python for his birthday in November so take that with grain of salt. Oh, and SG has been promised that if she'll leave her pacifiers out for the Kiki Fairy (she calls are pacifiers kikis) will leave her a dumpy tree frog.

The leaves of your tree make me think of a dogwood but the flowers are throwing me for a loop.

I think the tree might be a Tillia - Lime tree or Linden Tree are the common names. Bit hard to tell from here. If it's always covered in bees, that'll be it.

And your boys can come over and round up my slugs/snails anythime.

If you ever step right on a fat slug with your bare feet, and it happens to squish up between your toes with a loud POP noise, thereby blowing it's contents all in between your toes, the only thing that will get the slime off is lots of salt. Just sayin.

EWWWW! Slugs creep me out. But thats just me. Could that maybe be a smoke tree? By the way, I couldn't find Mom's zuchinni bread recipe over the weekend. She is looking for hers and will call me today with it. I'll send it along then.

Cool slug! I found an teensy, eensy one the other day when I was gardening. The tree, I think, might be a Linden. It looks the tree in my parent's front yard.

Well, color me impressed that they kept it alive that long. Jack wants to see if everything can swim right now. Obviously they can't. LOL
