Welcome to Your Life (There's No Turning Back)

Emerson Julius Suever (pronounced "see-ver") was born on August 18th.

Seven pounds, four ounces. Eighteen inches long.

Two hours after being born, he was taken to the nursery due to not self-regulating his temperature and having difficulties breathing. He spent four days (FOUR DAYS!!!) in the Progressive Care Nursery (which is ran by, but not as serious as, the NICU) and spent a night and day under the billie lights due to jaundice.

Obviously, he's as ornery as his brothers.

Aaron and I took a full week off from everything and have been camped in the living room. I swear we're getting sleep, but sleep at one-hour-or-less increments doesn't feel like real sleep.

He's a deliciously blond-haired fuzzy little monkey who's a champ at full-filling all his obligations: eating, dirtying diapers and sleeping.

And, occasionally, yawning.

We are so very lucky. And so very in love.

Hello beautiful boy! I could eat him up - was it really only 5 months ago that Kit was that small? Congrats, mama. Enjoy those baby days. They may be tough but they're fleeting. xoxo.

So, you may have a nutso uterus but it does cook very cute boy children. And on a weirder note, my fiance and I had chosen Emerson for a boy name and you know, genius loves company.

Some genealogy facts for the youngin'.
These are things I was curious about growing up. Like... what is our
nationality and why isn't our name pronounced sue-ver. My research uncovered the
following:

The Suever surname was originally spelled SÜVER and pronounced SEE-VER.
It is very similar to the surname Mueller, pronounced MEE-LER and
originally spelled MÜLLER. When you see a "UE" in an
Americanized German name, this is an indication that the two letters represent
the original umlaut: Ü
On U.S. Microsoft Windows computers, the umlaut can be generated
by holding down the ALT key while keying in 0252. (Some laptops
you must use Fn key and ALT + 0252.  Another option is
running the Character Map program by typing CHARMAP at the RUN command.

Some of the other SÜVER families names were changed to SEVER, SIEVER or SUEWER.
None of the families kept the umlaut, probably because it was not a standard key
on US typewriters.

The name could originate from either "Victory Guardian" (Siegwart)
or "Cleaner/Clean" (Sauber). I prefer the former!

Many of the SÜVER family lived in the Village of Wetter, Parish of Buer,
City of Melle, District of Osnabrück in the State of Lower Saxony in Germany.
Many SÜVER families left Buer, Germany in the 1850's. Most settled in four
Midwestern areas: St. Louis, Cincinnati, Toledo and Delphos, Ohio.
Delphos being both the smallest in overall population, yet the largest in Suever
emigres outside of Buer.

A majority of Suevers are of the Baptist religion and over 99% are
white
.

Outside of the US and Germany, a small enclave of Suever/SÜVERs can be found in
Turkey. Nothing is known about this group other than one member is a
famous human rights activist using the original umlauted surname.

More information about Buer can be found:

When searching for information or maps, try using the keywords of Melle
or Lower Saxony Germany for best results.
